Originally by: James Lyrus I dislike warp to zero for entirely different reasons. I want 30 jumps to be a long way, and I want slow ships to, ya'know, actually be slow.
I want fast haulers to have some point, and make the default fit not automatically the best expanders you can afford.
I want to be choosing to use a frigate in combat over a battleship because a frigate has strategic as well at tactical maneuverability. I want the 'wolfpack raids' to be making the same decisions. I want the gate camps to be making the same choices, so if I do blunder into one, I'm not just facing 50 BS and automatic death because even if I get clear they'll chase me on instas.
I want there to be a real differentation in prices across a region, than everyone dumping stuff in the hub 10 jumps away. I want a market based around this, so we can do away with the fairly pointless NPC trade goods anyway, and have actual profit margins from moving ammo, ships and general supplies around.
This is entirely independant of PvP, piracy or otherwise. I'm terrible at either, regardless of the state of instas/warp to 0.
Seriously. EVE without instas is a _better game_. Harder, yes. But to a certain extent this is a self re-inforcing thing. The metaphorical 'big gank' gate camp is an evolution to deal with circumstances in game. Those circumstances being that moving a BS into place is relatively easy (because of instas/warp to 0) and because actually catching someone is relatively difficult (because of instas or warp to 0).
If these situations changed, then you would see gate camps still, but a lot less of them in favour of smaller faster ships. You know, the ones that if you do blunder into in your battleship, you actually have a fight on your hands, rather than a one sided 'just dead'.
good post.

Originally by: Xelios Well then how about this, if you want the universe to feel bigger and don't mind the travel times then use autopilot's warp to 15km. The people who DO mind the travel time and have better things to do can use warp to 0km. Problem solved, yes?
no. if you want warp to 0, fly in an inty manually.
